Business Owner: Over a Year Old

I enjoy writing these experiences as I wished someone had done the same for me.

Let me start by saying that running your own business is not easy and  many sacrifices have to be made. It can be stressful but it’s your own stress it’s not the stress passed on from others. Which to be honest I dont mind. And plus I love seeing the results of what I have done. So

Setbacks
There have been many setbacks within the business and for my company. All of which have been lessons learnt though. Dare I say it all have been very humbling too. For example I designed something and someone else decided to pinch a lot of the idea. From that I keep the designs to myself until I’m ready to launch or I get the assisted or consultant who will help me to sign a contract so they cannot use the same design.

Delegate
This has been a very difficult one for me and again have had to learn the hard way. Like with life there are only so many hours in the day for you to complete things. When you start a company you try to do everything yourself. Money maybe short and you cannot afford to hire any staff. So you do the work by yourself. Eventually money is not so much of an issue and instead time is, and you realise that hiring someone else to do other tasks is what is required for the business. Every so often I will hire someone for website updates and as consultant. And recently considering having a Personal Assistant too. ( Some people may think this is extra, but I’m of the thinking of get help when you need it.)

Time
Organisation has been my best friend in order to find the time to do anything. I decide to set days or times dedicated to the business. This is so that no other aspect of my life is neglected. I get so much more done in a day once I’ve set my schedule out. I follow a list which I follow according to what I need to do. For example this week I will be redesigning and organising the website. Which means that I must create new content, create forms and hire a web developer to work with soon.

Network
This can be done in so many ways. Commenting on posts related to the business is key. I talk to professionals in the field having open discussions on subjects that will effect the company. Attending events is very key and trainings there you can have instant interactions with people who are in the same profession as you.

Reflection
Sometimes during the most hardships I reflect. I used to do this after everyday of working on my business but only have time to do this once a week. I do it on a Friday so I can prepare for the ‘don’ts ‘ for the following week. It allows me to be clear in the aims of the company. I come up with some great ideas and I talk to other about some of them. It’s a beautiful process.

Ok so when I started writing this I though let me give them an update on being a business owner. Instead it turned out to be tips I wish I had before I started. Needless to say writing things down is so very important no matter what industry you are in. I’m currently not only a business owner but a life learner and writing in is important in everything is continue to do.

I would love to hear about the businesses you own, the side hustles you have and the amazing ideas that you are just about to embark on.

Here are some of the things that have helped me on the way:

Do you own a business? What business do you own? How do you handle business?

  1. Well congratulations on your business! Moving forward, I can't believe someone took your designs, very shady. Delegate your work load if you can, time is of the essence and a personal assistant is needed in most cases. Good for you : ) xo
